Salesforce is the CRM powerhouse that recently surpassed $20 billion in annual revenue. Recently, it announced that it is wading deeper into enterprise social by acquiring Slack in a $27.7 Billion megadeal. Rumors of a pending deal surfaced last week, causing Slack’s stock price to spike.
The acquisition of Slack is being haled as Salesforce’s biggest purchase in the 21st century. The company is spending $27.7 billion to buy Slack, as per the announcement made by the companies.
“Under the terms of the agreement, Slack shareholders will receive $26.79 in cash and 0.0776 shares of Salesforce common stock for each Slack share, representing an enterprise value of approximately $27.7 billion based on the closing price of Salesforce’s common stock on November 30, 2020,” the report by Slack and Salesforce read.
Why did Salesforce acquire slack?
Salesforce is buying workplace messaging app Slack for $27.7 billion, marking the largest acquisition in the San Francisco-based cloud-based company’s history.
Salesforce (CRM) announced the deal Tuesday in conjunction with its earnings release for its third quarter of fiscal 2021.
The move will allow Salesforce (CRM), which sells cloud-based customer relationship management software and other enterprise applications, to bolster its business offerings.
Slack’s stock was essentially flat in after-hours trading Tuesday. Salesforce shares fell more than 4%.
