Among Us has been struggling with hacking issues recently, as the sudden popularity of the game has also opened the floodgates to cheaters. As hundreds of players suddenly found their in-game chats spammed with messages telling them to subscribe to a YouTube channel.
Players have reported their games were filled with messages telling them to subscribe to a YouTube channel called Eris Loris. Many messages told players their device had been hacked or threatened to destroy devices if didn’t subscribe.
Hacking and other forms of cheating in Among Us has grown considerably. The game emerged as a popular online pastime during the pandemic this past summer. And Among Us has only grabbed more of the spotlight just these past few days, following a hugely successful Twitch stream from Rep.
What kind of spam is Among Us facing?
The spam attack began meanwhile players also discovered their in-game chat logs filling up with messages. As it promoted ‘Eris Loris’ YouTube channel. Along with some messages threatening users with hacking of their personal devices if they didn’t subscribe.
Other messages promoted both the YouTube channel and President Donald Trump.
To promote this ‘Eris Loris’ YouTube channel, it advertises hacks and other game cheating services. The spam attack would have hit 1.5 million games, affecting close to 5 million players.
How Among Us Developers are dealing with Loris
As a small developer, InnerSloth has a harder time addressing hacks like this than larger studios. By making Eris Loris’ spams seem to be more unconscionable. It would be inexcusable even in a game from a much larger developer, but it’s easier.
InnerSloth is facing a problem by having different resources to clean up Loris’ mess rather than working on updating and maintaining the game.
The sudden success of Among Us after two years of being available has driven a lot of attention to the game. As a developer, InnerSloth pushed out an emergency server update to try to address it.
