Zoox was founded in 2014 and was acquired by e-commerce giant Amazon in June this year. An autonomous vehicle manufacturer based in Foster City, Silicon Valley is known as Zoox has unveiled its first-ever vehicle.
Zoox Robo-Taxi
Zoox made its way into the autonomous driving market by announcing its “Robo-Taxi”.
Robo-Taxi is a four-person, compact, multidirectional vehicle suitable for the dense metropolitan traffic. The carriage-style interior of the vehicle produced by Zoox has two benches that face each other. There is no steering wheel. It measures just under 12 feet (3.6 meters) long, about a foot shorter than a standard Mini Cooper.
The vehicle has Unique bidirectional capabilities and four-wheel steering, allowing for better maneuverability. It can reach up to 75 miles per hour (120 Kmph) and can last for 16 hours on a single charge.
Battery Information
The Battery Capacity of the vehicle is larger than a Tesla’s Model S 85 kWh, at 133kWh.
Zoox will be applying the latest techniques in automotive, robotics, and renewable energy. This would build a symmetrical, bi-directional battery-electric vehicle that solves the unique challenges of autonomous mobility.
Key Features of the “Robo-Taxi”
According to the company website, The vehicle would also have wireless chargers for smartphones.
The vehicle will also feature a personal control panel to set the music and in-car air conditions as well as check on arrival time, location, and route.
Since there’s no driver’s seat, the company says that each passenger will have the same comfort, space, and access to technology.
The company had previously retrofitted Toyota Highlanders with their self-driving system in final preparation for their commercial vehicle reveal in December 2020.
The present-day test driving is taking place in both San Francisco’s Financial District and North Beach districts, as well as Las Vegas.
