Amazon announced a new Alexa feature, Live Translation. It will help users translate conversations between people who speak two different languages. The new feature in Alexa uses the tech giant’s speech recognition technology and has a neural machine translation technology for work and support the translation between English and French, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese (Brazilian), German or Italian.
For new features in Alexa, users can use Live Translation. Now when an Echo device owner issues a voice command like “Alexa, translate French” to translate between English and French. Where users can also speak in either language, even taking natural pauses between sentences, Amazon claims.
Alexa will automatically detect the language being spoken and translate each side of the conversation. On Echo Show devices, users can also see the translation in addition to hear it.
What is Amazon’s Alexa?
Alexa was first used in the Amazon Echo smart speakers developed by Amazon Lab126. Amazon’s Alexa retains the aptitude for voice interaction, symphony playback, creating to-do lists, putting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information, such as news. Alexa can also control several smart devices by using itself as a home automation system.
How Alexa’s translation feature will work requires further testing?
Alexa’s Live translation is the latest feature in a series of language-focused updates for Echo devices. The feature also follows the last introduction of multilingual mode for U.S. sound systems, which allows Alexa users to speak a combination of English and Spanish, French and English, and Hindi and English, for example.
Amazon’s Voice Alexa can also translate a single word or phrase into more than 50 supported languages. In addition to helping users to have better communication, Amazon also says that feature can be used for language learning and communication between hotel guests and staff through Alexa for Hospitality, its platform is designed for the hotel industry.
