- Apple removes its ‘TV remote’ app from the App Store
- iOS has an integrated remote instead of a separate app
- App no longer will receive any updates
Apple always brings pre-eminent services for its uses. Past a month the company has brought various remarkable updates and features. This month the company released its iPhone 12 series phones. The release was followed by the removal of chargers as well.
The company is accountable for bringing so many new surprises to us this year. Apple silently removed its ‘Apple TV’ remote app from the App Store. The app no longer exists in the App Store.
This app is a virtual TV remote. It allows you to control your Smart TV from your iPhone. The app also supported Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips, Panasonic. It also included Roku Sticks, Hitachi, Telefunken, Grundig, Continental Edison TV, and more.
In order to use the remote, your iPhone and TV should be on the same WiFi network. Basically, the app is known as iTunes Remote. It allows you to control your TV as well as iTunes libraries. The app uses the proprietary Digital Audio Control Protocol (DAPC).
What was the ‘TV Remote’ app all about?
The initial version of the app allowed us to control the basic functions. These functions include a media library and limited to functions similar to physical remote. Later revision of version 1 added various abilities. It includes the ability to create and edit playlist in the iTunes app.
Users were able to search for media libraries and generate Genius playlist. Further, these features were improved by the release of version 2.0. This added support for the iPad and the new retina display. These features aren’t limited, it includes various other incredible features.
Subsequent updates to this version 2 improved application stability. It also added AirPlay video support to Apple TVs. The current version also included these features. In addition it has a wide range of other features as well.
However, the company has now integrated the remote with its iOS. Apple has added the remote feature built into the Control Center in iOS 12. Now Apple users can have access to Siri Remote without having to download any app.
Apple has removed almost all references to the Apple TV remote app.
The company has in fact discontinued it. Now if you visit the Apple Support website, an article shows up. It suggests you add the remote option to the iOS Control Centre.
Here mentioning that the Apple TV Remote app is different from the iTunes Remote app. It let users remotely play songs and videos on an Apple TV or Mac. This app is still available on the App Store for free.
