Ubiquitous mailing service Gmail suffered a second outage in two consecutive days with its email services going down for more than two hours on Tuesday, December 15. Gmail also suffered an hour-long outage the day before yesterday on Monday, December 14.
Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Gmail, said service had been restored for all users at 6:51 p.m. New York time on Tuesday. The problem was acknowledged by Google at 4:28 p.m.
Upwards of 18,000 people had reported an issue with the mailing service on the popular network error website, DownDetector.
Google’s Apology
“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support,” Google said on its website. “Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.”
Not only Gmail
Many Google services including popular video streaming service YouTube and Gmail, suffered major global outages on Monday. Blackout prevented users from accessing services and other products from Google.
YouTube outage was clarified by the company as “an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue.”
“We apologize to everyone affected, and we will conduct a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future,” a Google spokeswoman wrote in an email Monday.
Although, only 18,000 people reported the issue. Google itself has not revealed the exact number of users affected. Interestingly, Gmail and YouTube combined together have users count of above 3.5 Billion globally.
