Google I/O (or simply I/O) is an annual developer conference held by Google in Mountain View, California. “I/O” stands for input/output, as well as the slogan “Innovation in the Open”. The event’s format is similar to Google Developer Day. The event will take place from Tuesday, May 18 through Friday, May 21. The first part of the show will be a keynote from Sundar Pichai and other Google executives, delivered at 10:00 AM PT (1:00 PM ET). This is usually when the biggest news drops. Users can view the full schedule of events.
As with every year, Google will live stream its keynote and various other events. However, due to the all-virtual nature of the show, every single event will be live-streamed for free. This differs from previous years in which parts of the show could only be experienced by paid attendees. You can register and find out how to watch the various events.
Google ‘I/O Adventure’ is a virtual developer’s conference:
Google in 2021 is making I/O more than just a developer conference that strictly takes place over video live streams. Google’s answer is a “virtual event experience” and digital space called I/O Adventure. With a few days, until I/O 2021 kicks off, Google has fully detailed how I/O Adventure will let you see product demos, chat with Googlers, earn more Google Developer profile badges, and virtual swag, engage with the community, create an avatar, and discover easter eggs.
It will open on Day 1 of I/O after the Developer keynote — which ends at 1 p.m. PT — and closes on Day 3 on May 20 at 2 p.m. It’s almost MMO-like (massively multiplayer online game)/Second Life in nature.
The registration is now open:
The registration is now open and provides access to live Q&A during Sessions, Workshops, Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions, personalized content, badges, and chat in I/O Adventure. In going virtual, I/O is following Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference and Microsoft Build. Last year, the company completely canceled its flagship “I/O 2020” conference.
The company said attendees will get a refund and those who purchased tickets for this year’s event will be granted the option of buying a Google I/O 2021 ticket. Google I/O is its biggest news event of the year that brings new changes to Android and updates to services like Google Maps.
