- How should I go about submitting my IMDb rating?
Any registered IMDb user with an account can easily rate any title on the site. Rating titles is a fun way to express yourself, keep track of what you’ve seen, and get titles recommended to you based on your viewing habits in the “Top Picks” section of the IMDb home page.
To submit your rating, go to the title page and look at the top of the screen for the average user rating with yellow stars. To save your rating, select the number of stars by clicking the lead to the right!
The ratings range from 1 to 10, with one indicating that the title was terrible and one of the worst you’ve ever seen and then suggesting that it was excellent. Your rating is taken into account when calculating the total user rating for a title. If we don’t have enough ratings, we won’t provide them until we do.
- What does it mean whether or not a user review was helpful?
You can express your thoughts on the review by tapping the app’s thumbs up (Helpful) or thumbs down (Not Helpful) icon.
Once you’ve decided, these options will be replaced by a line of text indicating whether or not you found the review helpful. You can also use the three dots to the right to see options for rating the usefulness of the evaluation and reporting it as a Duplicate, Inappropriate, Not Relevant, or for containing an unannounced spoiler.
Remember that “helpful” does not always imply “positive” or “favorable.” Even if a review trashes the movie, it can help readers decide whether or not to waste their time or money watching it.
Similarly, just because you find a helpful review does not mean you agree with it. Even if you ultimately disagree with the reviewer’s conclusions, a well-thought-out analysis of a film can still help change your opinion or bring to light a new point of view.
