- Look Around provides a street-level 3D view of cities.
- Apple Maps received the feature in an update last year.
- The feature is similar to Google’s Street View.
Apple released the Look Around feature for its mapping service for a bunch of new cities. Denver, Detroit, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale are receiving this feature in the current update. Look Around feature in Apple Maps provides users a customized street level view of the above cities. The feature was announced quietly by Apple on its feature availability website.
Look Around
Apple completed the official rollout of the redesigned version of Maps earlier this year. In addition to improved navigation, better road coverage, it also added the support for Look Around. In a way, it is Apple’s version of Google’s popular Street View feature. It offers a street-level view of 3D photography. Users can zoom in and receive a view walking down the street.
Apple Maps was updated with the release of iOS 13. It incorporated high-quality visuals plus ensuring smooth animations in the Look Around feature. Look Around is natively integrated with Apple Maps and offers strong competition to Google’s Street View. However, the feature was limited to a few cities, and the process of expansion is quite slow. Available in 17 cities worldwide, Look Around still has a long way to go.
About Apple Maps
Apple’s mapping service came a long way and had undergone some massive redesigns to reach its current position. Apple Maps is available for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Macs. The redesigned app features turn-by-turn navigation, traffic updates, lane guidance, and transit data as well.
It uses on-device machine learning and differential privacy to train Siri and make it familiar with your route. In fact, Siri is deeply integrated with the new maps app. You can now ask for specific directions, closing times, business information, or even the nearest gas station.
Siri Intelligence informs you of the traffic ahead and suggests an appropriate detour when needed. The mapping app also provides destination planning features and transforms itself into a fully functional travel assistant. You can take a birds-eye view tour of cities with the Flyover feature and add landmarks for use while in town. Apple kept the privacy and security of its users while redesigning the app.
