Microsoft’s official announcement
Microsoft states that it wants to make the transition from gaming to media streaming on consoles as seamless as possible. It already offers a bunch of other streaming services. Some mainstream services are Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Spotify, YouTube, YouTube TV, and Amazon Prime Videos. Others include Hulu, Vudu, FandangoNow, Twitch, Sky Go, NOW TV, among others.
Microsoft will be rolling out an Apple TV app with the worldwide launch of its new Xbox consoles. Xbox devices like Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are receiving this update. Xbox users can watch Apple TV+ original shows and movies. They can also subscribe to Apple TV Channels, access the iTunes Store, and purchase movies and TV shows. It also allows users to rent over 100,000 movies and shows. The Family Sharing feature lets up to six family members share subscriptions to Apple TV channels.
What is Apple TV?
It is an ad-free, subscription-based, video-on-demand service by Apple Inc. It was launched on November 1, 2019. Apple TV+ offers exclusive Apple original TV shows and movies. Its contents are available in 4K HDR quality. But, this content is available exclusively through the Apple TV app. The app is available on all Apple devices like AppleTV set-top box, iPhones, iPads, or on tv.apple.com. Apple TV app is available for third-party platforms like Amazon Fire TV, Roku, and Sony smart TVs. Users can upgrade to Apple TV+ at the cost of $4.99 a month subscription with a seven-day free trial period.
The new consoles provide better color, spatial sound, and enhanced dynamic range. The Xbox Series X and S support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. This makes supported apps like Netflix, Disney+, and Vudu a more immersive experience. Xbox now has a new Entertainment block that showcases the latest content across popular entertainment apps.
