Whatsapp has been the most popular cross-platform messaging Voice over IP (VoIP) service after the acquisition of services by Facebook. Whatsapp has been on the Mobile platform since January 2009. It started its support for Windows PC desktop in January 2015.
Seamless User Experience
Now the company wants to erase the differentiating lines between the Mobile and Desktop Version, to promote the seamless Users experience on any device. Whatsapp Web is the official name for Whatsapp on PC. It is soon expected to get video and voice call options similar to its mobile version.
The Company has started rolling out the feature to few Whatsapp Beta users, as per the report from Wabetainfo. The update is rolling out from the server-side. In case any beta users do not get the update, they would in a couple of days.
Wabetainfo report stated: “WhatsApp is rolling out beta calls for specific users but unfortunately, being a beta feature, it’s available for very few people. We hope you’re lucky but, if it doesn’t, don’t worry: every day more users receive that activation and, at present, WhatsApp Desktop has a higher priority,”
User Interface for the calls
For users, a small pop up box would appear as in the case of most applications. These are turn off video, mute voice, reject button, and more. Also, if WhatsApp also features Picture in Picture, then the users will also be chat while attending calls.
The video calling feature is free on this messaging app and to get started you just need a working internet connection. There is no restriction on the duration and number of calls a user can make. In the mobile version, you’ll find the voice or video call icon in the top right corner of any WhatsApp chat.
Currently, WhatsApp only supports up to eight participants for group voice or video calls.
