We reached out to Elisa Amarelle, the Founder of app development company Bixlabs for a short interview to understand what makes them leading app developers from Uruguay.
Tell us something about your company.
Bixlabs was born in 2014 when Elisa and Alfredo made the first project together while Elisa worked from home and Alfredo did it in his spare time while working on another job.
By August of that same year, the company was officially created with five members of the team, two co-founders, and three employees.
With a progressive growth today Bixlabs has thirty people in the whole team, fifteen in Montevideo and the rest in different countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Chile and the USA.
Today we develop tech products for different countries. 90% of our client’s startups of the United States most located in Silicon Valley – California
What are your company’s specializations?
Our company specializes in the development of technology products for startups and innovative companies.
We develop Mobile apps (Android (Kotlin), iOS (Swift), React Native, Cordova / Ionic), Web apps (Angular, Node, React.js and Elixir), UX / UI Design (Web and mobile app design, user experience, user interface, Information architecture), Strategy (discovery phase, roadmap definition, product management and product marketing and growth)
Who are some of your major customers?
Most of our clients are experienced entrepreneurs located in the United States that have funding for their startup. We also work with traditional companies that implement innovative projects, we work with “intrapreneurs” in these companies.

What is your average cost of mobile app development?
We work on time and material basis, the cost of developing an app depends on the project and the features that need to be implemented, but on an average, an app cost $50K-$100K to start.

We use Ionic with Cordova and React Native.
Do you develop mobile apps with native or hybrid?
We develop native and hybrid apps depending on the objectives and needs of each client. We accompany our clients in the decision-making process evaluating all aspects involved in each project.
What is the app development process that you follow?
We use the Scrum framework, this methodology is implemented in all areas of our company and thanks to it we have managed to optimize our work and development processes. We have the characteristic of being a remote company with a team in our HQs (located in Montevideo – Uruguay) and the rest working remotely from different countries in Latin America, so we can say that world is our office and one of the things that allow us to work in this way without problem is Scrum.
What is the new technology you are working on?
At this moment we are working on projects with Elixir and React Native.
Do you work on technologies like IoT, Blockchain or Artificial Intelligence?
We don’t have any in production yet but we are working with two projects that are in early stages and involve AI and we are interested in working with IoT and Blockchain projects. Our goal for this next year is to gain experience in these technologies.
Are you looking for customers in a particular industry or domain? Please mention just one industry.
Our main interest is to work with startups accompanying them in the generation of successful projects. Therefore we could say that the industry that we accompany is that of startups.
Where do you see your company in the next 5 years?
In the next five years, we want to triple our team, tripling in this way the impact we generate with our company, bringing our team, which is integrated by professionals from all over LATAM, the opportunity to work for interesting project and clients from the leading countries in technology and innovation. have an office installed in the USA where today we already have members of our team working (in Houston, TX)
