The most awaited event in Techtober unveils a series of new iPhones and a mini HomePod. Yesterday in its October event Apple launched the new iPhone 12 series. There was also a new member of the smart-speaker lineup; Apple revealed the Mini Homepod. Although rumors had successfully speculated most of the features weeks before the launch.
The iPhone 12
The new iPhone 12 brings 5G support to the series. Apple CEO Tim Cook calls it ‘a new era for iPhone. and added that ‘5G will bring new level performance to the iPhone 12 models. This year’s iPhone series saw four new models compared to three in the previous years. These models include the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iphone12 pro, and iPhone 12 pro max.
The entry-level iPhone 12 mini sports the 5.4 inch super retina XDR display. it sports a wide P3 color gamut truetone and up to 1200 nits brightness in HDR mode. It is powered by the same A14 Bionic chip apple unveiled last month with the iPad air4. The new processor is based on a 5nm manufacturing process and delivers up to 50% improvement over its competitors.
The iPhone 12 will have a bigger 6.1-inch screen while the same internals as the iPhone 12 mini. They both sport a 2 camera setup comprising wide and ultra-wide cameras.
The pro series also comes in two sizes namely a 6.1 inch iPhone 12 pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 pro max. they sport a triple-camera setup comprising wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras. The pro models get the LIDAR sensor from the iPad Pro models. This LIDAR sensor scans and forms a 3d structure of the surrounding. Thus enhancing the autofocus and low light capabilities of the iPhones. There were several other improvements in the photos and videos department.
One such improvement is in the optical image stabilization. While earlier phones could move the lenses for image stabilization, these newer pro models will be able to shift the sensors instead. This means more crisp photos and better night mode shooting. The Apple ProRAW enables users to capture and edit RAW images within the photos app. The iPhone 12 models start from $699 onwards while the Pro models cost $999 onwards.
Apart from these features, all the iPhones are equipped with :

- IP68 splash and water-resistant (up to 6m depth for 30 minutes).
The HomePod Mini
The HomePod mini will be available in two colors, gray and white. It can be linked with another HomePod mini as a stereo pair to amplify the sound. It is compatible with Apple Music, iHeartRadio, radio.com, and TuneIn. HomePod Mini is priced competitively at $99 as compared to the larger HomePod at $349. Customers can pre-order it on 6th November and shipping will begin on November 16th.
