- Apple is forced to sell iPhones with power adapters in Brazil
- With the recent iPhone 12 series Apple has removed all accessories
- Earlier, the company had to keep shipping with EarPods in France
Apple has recently faced a lot of criticism earlier. Removing all the accessories that come with the new iPhone in the box was unexpected. However, Apple defended its controversial decision to remove the charger. According to the company, the environment is the reason for this change.
Apple says it has been done to achieve the environmental goals set by the company. The Cupertino-based firm said that by removing charger and Earpods packaging can be reduced. It will help reduce the packaging by 70 percent.
This will also allow the company to ship more devices at the same time. However handily Android beats Apple as it gives flexible options. Not only this some Android companies have previously mocked Apple for removing adapters.
In this list of companies, Samsung and Xiaomi are included. And now the customers are only provided with a USB-C cord. But now the company is forced to sell iPhone with included power adapters in Brazil. Also, it was reported in October that the company had to keep shipping with EarPods in France.
Why is Apple forced to sell adapters?
It was due to the local laws that the company was forced to sell adapters. Something similar is going to take place in Brazil with the power adapter. The Brazillian state of Sao Paulo decided that Apple is now required to sell new iPhones with the accessory.
The decision was reported yesterday by Folha de S.Paulo. It is confirmed today by Procon-SP. It is the public consumer protection agency of the Sao Paulo State. Procon-SP notified Apple in October asking the company for clarification on removing the power adapter.
It asked Apple to specify how removing the charger would not harm its consumers. It also asked the company to explain the real benefits for the environment. Apple explained that most users already have a compatible charger. In addition to this, the removal will also reduce carbon emissions.
But the Brazillian agency was not satisfied with the explanation that Apple gave. As per Procon-SP adapter is an essential component to use the component. Also, selling the iPhone with it is against the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code.
As per the agency, Apple hasn’t provided enough evidence that the removal will help the environment. The company hasn’t guaranteed the customers that it will offer the same technical support with third-party chargers. The response to the decision is demanded by tomorrow.
Otherwise, the company will face a fine in Brazil. Though the decision is exclusive to Sao Paulo State. Brazil’s National Consumers Secretary is also considering forcing Apple.
