- Apple can soon begin repairing the rear glass panels of the iPhone 12.
- Earlier, the entire device had to be replaced.
- This change will decrease the service time taken by AASPs.
If hardware problems are encountered by an iPhone or other Apple product, Apple technicians conduct a device review. They decide if it can be quickly fixed or if the device must be fully replaced. However, the firm will soon be able to fix items without replacing the unit itself. This includes sensors like Face ID and even cracked rear glass on iPhone 12 models. Apple revealed this in an internal memo sent to Genius Bars and Apple Approved Service Providers (AASP). Now, the technicians would have access to a new method that would enable them to fix more parts. This means the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 could be repaired without the need for a replacement device.
Some iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 models can not be turned on or are having problems with the logic board. Face ID system, or the computer enclosure, such as cracked rear glass. Apple said technicians would be able to provide same-unit repairs starting on February 23. The new “iPhone Rear System” will allow Apple to replace the logic board, the Face ID sensors, and even the iPhone’s rear glass. Right now, the company will only give you the option of replacing the device with a new one. If you take an iPhone with one of these problems to Apple.
Service time will decrease
The cameras that need a new unit are the only components that would not be eligible for the same-unit repair. The display is also not replaceable with this new form. Because Apple can already change the display without having to replace the whole iPhone. For instance, if a customer has an iPhone 12 mini with broken rear glass, technicians can replace the entire rear portion of the device with the new enclosure attached to the original display and the rear camera. For this purpose, according to Apple, the customer’s monitor and rear camera must be free from damage. Or functional failure so that their computer can qualify for this same-unit repair process.
This would potentially decrease the service time at Apple Stores and AASPs. Since customers often have to wait a few days until the new device is received, while some repairs can be done in-store. This is part of its effort to decrease the carbon footprint of the commodity it produces, the company says. In all countries where the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 are sold, Apple says the latest repair method will be available. For now, at least, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are not eligible for repairs to the same device.
