- Samsung extended its strategic partnership with Hiya, till 2025
- Samsung users get an automatic Caller ID and Spam Protection feature
- It will identify and intercept fraudulent calls without ringing the device
Samsung will soon bring the ability to block robocalls and other unwanted phone chats on their devices. However, this functionality will be limited to its flagship models. Samsung has joined Hiya, a spam call detection company, to bring automatic spam call rejection. It has introduced its Smart Call feature that keeps a check on fraud calls.
Hiya is a caller and business profile service provider based in Seattle. Samsung has extended its strategic partnership with Hiya up to 2025. It currently employs Hiya to provide spam and fraud call detection through its dialer. Under this new partnership, Samsung will extend this service and automatically block these calls on One UI 2.5. But currently, One UI 2.5 is available on its Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. Samsung’s Smart Call will utilize Hiya’s real-time detections and cloud infrastructure to block fraudulent calls.
What is this feature and how to enable it?
This feature is capable of identifying and intercepting calls even before the phone begins to ring. It can be accessed on all the eligible devices by visiting their call settings. Within the call settings, enable ‘Caller ID and Spam Protection.’ This setting is expected to be available on all Samsung devices from 2021 onwards with the release of One UI 2.5.
Samsungs VP and Head of Technology Strategy Group, Mobile Communications Business, Inkang Song, stated that “At Samsung, we are dedicated to making the mobile experience safer and more engaging for our customers. We are excited to continue our partnership with Hiya to offer best-in-class solutions to our customers across the globe.”
This is not a new feature in the industry as Google provides a Call Screening feature on Pixel Devices. It listens to the content of calls and blocks scammers without ringing the phone. TrueCaller is another such app that identifies spam calls and allows users to block them. In comparison to Google and Samsung, users will need to tweak some settings of their devices to enable call blocking.
Like the Google Phone app, businesses will be able to deliver their logo, name. They’ll use Hiya Connect’s Branded Call feature to connect to customers. Hiya’s services will also provide businesses access to reputation monitoring and management. This, in turn, will allow them to track their reputation health and avert inaccurate spam labeling.
