- Samsung will provide CMC on Galaxy devices
- ‘Call & Message Continuity’ was introduced with Android Pie in One UI 1.1
- The new update may enable CMC on Google Messages app
Google Messages may soon bring ‘Call and Message Continuity’ to its devices. Presently, Samsung Galaxy phones are capable of sending and receiving calls or text messages. They are also able to make calls and text from the Galaxy Tab to Galaxy smartphones. But the feature is limited to its default app. The new beta may bring support over other calling and messaging apps.
What Is Call And Messages Continuity?
Call and Message Continuity syncs your calls and messages across your Samsung devices. This feature helps you never miss a call or text. No matter where you are or what device you’re on and how far away you are from your phone. However, the devices need to be connected over Wi-Fi and have Samsung Messages as its default app.
Google Messages have received this feature in its beta testing app under version 6.9 ‘Fir’ update. The update shows two references to ‘CMC’ that is believed to be referring to the ‘Call and Message Continuity’ feature. This functionality has been available in Apple Devices for a long time. As a result, the superior interoperability of Apple’s ecosystem adds a boost to productivity.
The ‘Continuity and Handoff’ feature in iOS and macOS lets you continue your calls even when switching to your Macbooks. Samsung had introduced the Continuity feature in their custom skin a long time ago. Dubbed as ‘Call & Message Continuity,’ the feature was available on select devices using Android Pie-based One UI 1.1. The feature was limited to only the flagships phones and tablets. Later on, it was expanded to a handful of Galaxy A Series mid-range phones. To access this feature, users needed to have a common account on both the devices.
How To Set Up CMC On Galaxy Devices
- First, you’ll need to log in to your Samsung account.
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to the Connections tab and open it.
- Turn on the switch next to ‘Call & Message Continuity.’
- Read and Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Follow similar steps on your other Samsung device.
The devices are now registered and in sync. The devices can share data over the internet and your conversations will be synced across your devices.
Though it is not clear from the source code of the app, Google Messages may support CMC on Samsung devices. If true, users will be able to switch their default messaging app to Google Messages.
